SLIPKNOT's JOEY JORDISON: New Stuff Is "Pretty Fucking Brutal"

July 31, 2002

SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison recently spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about the group's forthcoming third full-length album, which the band will begin work on early next year for a late 2003 release through Roadrunner Records.

According to Jordinson, SLIPKNOT have amassed material left over from the Iowa sessions as well as a host of new songs. "It's pretty fucking brutal still," he said. "If you like 'People = Shit', you're gonna like our new stuff. SLIPKNOT has the SLAYER mentality: You know exactly what you're getting into when you buy our fucking record."

In the same article, Joey refused to dispel the rumors that the next album will be SLIPKNOT's last.

"The thing with this band is it's so extreme and it's so special and it's something you can't keep recreating over and over," he said. "We're not a formulated band. We have our certain thing that we do. Each album is a progression from the last -- something's heavier, or there's something a little more twisted or atmospheric about the new one than the last. But there's gonna be a limit to how far we can go with it. It might be two more albums, maybe three, maybe one, I don't know."

Meanwhile, in the current issue of Britain's Metal Hammer magazine, SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "The Clown" Crahan revealed that he may soon be helping ONE MINUTE SILENCE frontman Brian "Yap" Barry with an upcoming spoken-word album that he singer has planned. "Me and Yap are good friends and I'd like to do some things with him, get on a tour bus, me and Yap, and may bring the MURDERDOLLS [SLIPKNOT/STATIC-X supergroup] and just go up and down the [UK] causing mayhem."

On whether all of these side projects (i.e. STONE SOUR, MURDERDOLLS, Crahan/Yap] would cast a question mark over the integrity of the band, Shawn commented: "I can't talk for anyone else — it's not my place to — but they'll know if what they do is affecting SLIPKNOT. And if they do, they'll have to fuckin' answer to The Clown, because The Clown is always straight-up and will tell it to your face the way it is. If I've got a problem with someone or something, I'll fuckin' let them know. That's why everyone hates me."
